The Surface

What is a Resin Bound Driveway?

Resin bound surfacing is created by mixing natural aggregates with a clear UV-stable resin and laying the mixture onto a prepared base. The result is a smooth, permeable, hard-wearing surface that requires minimal maintenance and retains its appearance for well over a decade.

On the Isle of Man, resin bound is fast becoming the surface of choice for homeowners who want a finish that reflects the quality of their property — and holds up against island weather conditions year after year.

As a VUBA-approved installer, every HPM installation uses manufacturer-approved materials and is laid to full specification by our own directly employed team.

Why Resin

The case for resin bound surfacing

SuDS Compliant

Resin bound is fully permeable, meaning rainwater drains through the surface. This makes it SuDS compliant — no planning permission required for most domestic installations.

UV Stable

HPM uses UV-stable resin systems. The surface won't yellow, fade, or degrade in sunlight — critical on the Isle of Man where UV exposure and weather variation are both factors.

Low Maintenance

No weeds pushing through. No loose stones. No patching. A resin bound surface is one of the lowest-maintenance driveway finishes available — an occasional jet wash is all it needs.

Durable

Properly installed over a sound base, resin bound surfacing carries a lifespan well in excess of 10 years. Preparation and mix ratio are everything.

Installation

How a resin driveway is installed

01

Site Survey & Quote

Jaye visits, assesses the existing surface and base condition, takes measurements, and provides a written quote. Aggregate samples shown at this stage.

02

Base Preparation

The existing surface is assessed or excavated and a suitable permeable base is prepared. This stage determines the longevity of the finished surface — it cannot be rushed.

03

Resin Application

Aggregate is mixed with UV-stable resin to manufacturer specification and laid to a consistent depth. Edging details and any bespoke patterns completed at this stage.

04

Cure & Handover

The surface is allowed to cure and is inspected before handover. Trafficable within 24 hours. Aftercare instructions provided.

Common Questions

Resin driveway FAQ

In most cases, no. Resin bound surfacing is fully permeable, which means it meets SuDS requirements and is generally exempt from planning permission for front driveways. Jaye will confirm this at your site survey.
Most residential driveways are completed within a single day. Larger or more complex projects may require two days. The surface is trafficable within 24 hours of installation.
A properly installed resin bound surface will last well in excess of 10 years with minimal maintenance. The quality of base preparation is the primary factor in longevity — which is why HPM doesn't rush this stage.
In some cases yes — over existing tarmac or concrete in sound condition. Jaye assesses this at the site survey. Where the base is compromised, excavation and re-laying is the correct approach.
No. Resin bound aggregate surfaces offer good slip resistance even when wet — the texture of the aggregate provides grip. It is generally safer underfoot than smooth concrete or polished block paving.
Every project is different — size, base condition, and aggregate choice all affect the price. HPM provides a free site survey and written quote with no obligation. Call or WhatsApp Jaye directly for a same-day response.
